Originally conceived of in the 1980s by earlier developers, the 56-story Metropolis Tower II, is part of the massive, four tower, Metropolis Development, which spans 6.3 acres on the northwest corner of the South Park neighborhood. The Metropolis development, incorporates retail, the 18-story Hotel Indigo, the 38-story Metropolis Tower I, Metropolis Tower II, and Thea at Metropolis which spans 58-floors and consists of luxury apartments. The Metropolis Development broke ground in 2014 and Metropolis Tower II welcomed its first residents on August 2, 2018. Metropolis Tower I and the Hotel Indigo Tower opened their doors roughly a year earlier on December 30, 2016 and March 2, 2017 respectively. The Los Angeles Department of Buildings and Safety issued a temporary certificate of occupancy Thea at the Metropolis in December, 2019 and it is expected to open in winter, 2020.
Metropolis Tower II and its sister buildings are set apart from other Downtown Los Angeles developments by innovative, contemporary architecture brought to fruition by the top-ranked, architecture firm Gensler. Metropolis Tower II was designed to maximize light, air and views in each of the studio, one and two-bedroom residences offered.
