940 E. 2nd Street a.k.a the Barn Lofts (“940 E. 2ND St.”) arrived in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District in 2011. The structure that now houses 940 E. 2ND St. was originally built in 1906 to store sugar beets and was first renovated in the 1920s by famous architect John B. Parkinson known for designing nearby Pershing Square, Union Station, Los Angeles City Hall, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum). The façade from this renovation has been preserved to this day.
940 E. 2ND St. consists of 38, three-story, live/work town homes designed by Rockefeller Partners Architects. The building’s historic architectural components including exposed steel beams, original brick walls, and vaulted ceilings, have been elegantly blended with modern interiors and high level finishes. Each unit contains two and a half bathrooms, two bedrooms and a roof deck. Assigned parking is located directly outside each front door.
